Two copies arrived — you decide
You get your own drop-box address. Forward a receipt to it, or set a rule in Gmail and never think about it again.
Supplier, date, total and the CGST/SGST/IGST split come off the document. A PDF, a photograph of paper, a screenshot — all the same.
Filed to a category on your ledger, with the tax split out. If two copies of the same bill turn up, both stay visible and you decide.
No more keeping receipts in a drawer, no more typing them into a spreadsheet, and no more finding out in April what you cannot claim.
The debit alerts your bank already emails you become a transaction list, each one matched to the bill that paid for it. Nothing to connect, no bank login handed over, no read access to your account.
Export the ledger with the CGST, SGST and IGST already split out of every line. Your accountant gets a file, not a shoebox.
Split the bill with whoever was there, then show them a UPI QR with their share already in it. The money goes bank to bank; we never hold it.
A receipt in euros or dirhams is kept in the currency it was paid in and shown in yours, converted at the rate published for that date — not today’s. If the rate cannot be fetched, it says so rather than quietly showing you the wrong number.
Splitting
Splitwise will tell you that Rahul owes you ₹1,250. Then you leave it, open a UPI app, find him, and type the amount in yourself. Outlay does the arithmetic and the paying — without ever touching the money.
Add somebody by name and they are a full member with a running balance, not a label on one line. Seven at dinner and five accounts is the normal case, not the awkward one. When they do join, everything already split with them becomes theirs.
₹1,000 between three is not ₹333.33 each with a rupee left in the air. The remainder is handed out a paisa at a time, so the shares add up to exactly what was paid. Split equally, or set exact amounts when one person had the starter and three had the wine.
Four people, a weekend, and eleven expenses becomes two payments rather than eleven. Balances with the same person across several groups are added together, because that is how you think about it — you owe Priya, not Priya-from-the-Goa-trip.
You mark it paid, optionally with the screenshot, and it is settled once they confirm. Part payments count. Nothing is ever recorded as paid because an app assumed it went through.
Send a friend request inside the app, or a link that makes the account and the friendship in one step. Groups for a flat, a trip, a regular lunch. Nothing is shared with anybody until they accept.
Goa trip · four people
Settle up
₹1,250.00
Already in the code
Your friend scans it in GPay, PhonePe, Paytm — whichever they use. On one phone, save it and scan from the gallery.
The money never comes near us
It goes bank to bank between the two of you. Outlay builds the request and gets out of the way, which is why there is no wallet to top up and no balance sitting anywhere.
Splitwise, the app most people mean when they say “split app”, has no UPI integration at all in India. Neither do Settle Up, Tricount or Splid. The arithmetic is solved; the paying is left to you.
Paying on your own phone instead? Save the QR to your gallery in one tap and use “scan from gallery” — every UPI app supports it. We ship an Android app for exactly this.
A flat, a trip, the Tuesday lunch. Expenses stay attached to the group they belong to so the Goa trip does not get tangled with the electricity bill — but what you owe each person is still added up across all of them.
Some people you just split with. A friendship is its own two-person ledger, so you can settle a single coffee without inventing a group called Coffee. Requests go both ways and nothing is shared until it is accepted.
Send a link that adds someone to a group, or makes them your friend and their account in a single step. If they are not on Outlay we email the invitation for you, so nobody has to be talked through signing up.
Your overview
Business intelligence tools give you a canvas and a data model to build first. By the time you have a chart, the month is over. Here the data is already yours and already read — you are choosing what to look at, not constructing it.
Add what you want from the gallery, drop what you never read. Nothing is permanent and nothing needs configuring — every widget already knows where its numbers come from.
Put the thing you check every morning at the top. The layout saves to your account, so it is the same board on your laptop and your phone.
A six-month trend takes a wide slot and a single number takes a narrow one. The widget decides, not you, so the board looks composed however you rearrange it — and reflows on a phone without becoming a stack of squashed charts.
A personal vault shows personal numbers. Company widgets do not appear in it, and cannot be reached by asking for them directly — the gallery, the layout and the data are all checked against the same list.

On a company workspace another eight appear — department spend, approval cycle time, card utilisation and the rest. See those
Nothing here needs a query written or a field mapped. The bills are already read, so the widgets are just different ways of asking the same ledger something useful.
Spend vs budget
Am I going to overshoot this month, while there is still time to do something about it?
Needs action
What is actually waiting on me — a duplicate to judge, a bill that would not read?
Six-month trend
Is this month unusual, or is it what the last six have looked like?
Tax reclaimable
How much GST is sitting in this month’s invoices, split out of the totals already?
Recurring & subscriptions
What is billing me every month without being asked, and what does it add up to?
Spend without a receipt
Where did money leave with no paperwork behind it — the number an accountant asks for first?
Top merchants
Who am I actually paying, ranked, rather than a category that hides four suppliers?
Spend by category
Where is it going in the shape a return wants it, not the shape a bank statement gives it?
Daily activity
Which days do the bills arrive on, and is anything still landing that I thought had stopped?
Subscriptions
You do not have to tell Outlay what your subscriptions are. When the same supplier bills the same amount in three or more separate months, that is a subscription, and it says so — whether or not anyone remembers signing up for it.
No list to maintain and nothing to tick. It is a pattern in bills that have already been filed, which is how a forgotten subscription actually surfaces — the one you stopped using in March and have paid for since.
Each one carries the number of months it has been billing and when it last did. A subscription that has not charged in two months is either cancelled or about to surprise you, and both are worth knowing before the statement arrives.
Eight recurring charges of a few hundred rupees do not feel like anything until they are added up on one line. That total is the point of the widget.

Add the widget to your board and it stays there. Outlay does not cancel anything for you — that is between you and the supplier.
Your bank’s debit mails become a transaction list, and each one is matched to the bill that paid for it. What is left over is money you spent with no receipt — which is the number worth knowing.
A duplicate is flagged by supplier and invoice number, or by supplier, date and amount — so a photograph of the same paper receipt is caught, not just the same file twice. Both stay visible. Hiding one is how the real bill goes missing.
Connect Google Drive and every document lands in a folder you own. If you ever stop paying us, the paperwork is already somewhere you control.
Take the ledger out as a file your accountant can open. No request form, no waiting, no export that quietly omits the columns you needed.
Free is a real plan, not a trial. Pro is for people whose accountant asks questions.
