Creating a Group
Groups are isolated ledgers where members can add expenses and track balances.
Initialize the Group
Go to Expenses > Groups and click "Create Group". Give it a name (e.g., "Goa Offsite 2026").
Invite Members
Share the unique group invite link. Anyone who clicks the link will instantly join the group ledger.
Adding Expenses
When adding an expense to a group, you must define the "Paid By" user and how the expense is split.
- Equally: The total is divided evenly among all selected members.
- Exact Amounts: Specify exactly how much each person owes (e.g., Alice owes ₹500, Bob owes ₹250).
- Percentages: Useful for splitting rent when roommates have different income tiers.
The Settlement Engine
Outlay runs a debt simplification algorithm every time a new expense is added. It minimizes the total number of transactions needed to settle all debts.
One-Click UPI Payments
When you are ready to settle up, just click "Pay via UPI". Outlay automatically generates a dynamic QR code pre-filled with the exact settlement amount and the receiver's VPA.
